Recently, spinal Fusionless instrumentation has been clinically introduced. These instrumentations are more spring-like (compliant). However, whether the instrumentation is rigid or compliant the growth of the spine is effected. The actual level of instrument stiffness that affects growth is not known nor well quantified. The goals of this study were, by using FEA, to examine the effect of the level of instrumentation stiffness as well as the position of the screws on the growth of pig spine and to quantify the rotation of the vertebrae with respect to spring type or plate type instrumentation.

Finite Element Analysis on Nitinol Medical Applications
This article presents two applications of the nonlinear finite element analysis (FEA) using ABAQUS/Standard with a user developed material subroutine Nitinol UMAT from Abaqus West. The analyses are found to agree well with the theoretical prediction and/or experimental measurement. In that first example, FEA predicts the stress-strain response of a superelastic Nitinol device at different Af te...

متن کاملA challenge on Orthopedic Sciences: The Influence of Spinal Disease and Deformities on Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Review on Literature
Background: Adult degenerative disorders of hip and spine are common. The recent studies inconsistently havediscussed about the influence of spinal disorders on total hip arthroplasty (THA). In this review, we discussed clearlyabout these relationships and their effects on the most appropriate position of the acetabular component. Methods: We searched on databases and evaluated the articles abou...
متن کاملThe effect of spinal orthosis on trunk muscle force control in hyperkyphotic elderly
Background: The back extensor muscles are the main spinal supportive factors which function establishes spinal stability and erect posture of the spine. Spine deviation from the ideal alignment, like abnormal increase in the forward curvature of the thoracic spine may cause changes in the trunk muscle activity which can lead to a change in the spinal proprioception. It seems that the corrected ...
متن کاملPrediction of fracture load and stiffness of the proximal femur by CT-based specimen specific finite element analysis: cadaveric validation study
BACKGROUND Finite element analysis (FEA) of the proximal femur has been previously validated with large mesh size, but these were insufficient to simulate the model with small implants in recent studies. This study aimed to validate the proximal femoral computed tomography (CT)-based specimen-specific FEA model with smaller mesh size using fresh frozen cadavers. METHODS Twenty proximal femora...
